What we watch for in the Rio Grande Valley.
Insurance in the Rio Grande Valley depends a lot on which county you are in. Cameron and Willacy are TWIA seacoast counties where wind is written separately. Hidalgo and Starr are not, but flood after a tropical system is a serious risk from Mission to Raymondville. We quote by exact address and put the right combination together.
Hurricanes and windstorm coverage
In Cameron and Willacy counties, and on South Padre Island, wind and hail are usually written through TWIA or a private windstorm carrier alongside your homeowners policy. We line up the two so the deductibles and exclusions match, and we watch the tropics so you are bound before a storm closes the market.
Flooding on flat ground
The Valley is flat, drainage is slow and heavy rain events keep proving it. Flood is excluded from homeowners policies. We quote NFIP and private flood for homes in McAllen, Weslaco, Harlingen, Brownsville and the colonias, including homes outside mapped high-risk zones.
Uninsured drivers
The Valley has one of the highest uninsured-motorist rates in Texas. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage and PIP are the parts of an auto policy that protect you from someone else's lack of insurance, and we make sure they are quoted properly instead of dropped to hit a price.
Growth in Hidalgo County and second homes on the island
New subdivisions in Edinburg, Mission and McAllen need accurate replacement cost, and condos on South Padre need an HO-6 policy that fits the association's master policy plus windstorm and flood. Winter Texans with a second home or RV get the same attention.

Straight answers.
Does my Texas auto policy cover me in Mexico?
In most cases, no. Standard Texas policies do not provide liability coverage in Mexico. For trips across the bridge you need a separate Mexico auto policy, which is inexpensive for short visits.
Is windstorm coverage required in Hidalgo County?
Hidalgo is not a TWIA seacoast county, so most homeowners policies there include wind and hail. Cameron and Willacy counties are different, and wind is usually a separate policy. We quote by address so the right structure is used.
Can you help with a home that has had a flood claim?
Yes. Prior flood claims affect the flood premium and sometimes the homeowners options, but they rarely make a home uninsurable. Send us the claim history and we will tell you what our carriers can do.
Do you work with clients who do not come to Houston?
Almost all of our Valley clients never come to the office. Quotes, signatures, ID cards and policy changes are handled by phone, email and e-signature, and claims are handled by the carrier's local adjusters.
